Species laboratory mouse
Strain Type COI (coisogenic strain),MSR (mutant strain)
Mutant Type TG (Transgenic)
Other Names
Background Strain FVB/N
Strain Description
1.  The transgene expressed ASS and EGFP as bicistronic transcript. EGFP expression is controlled transcriptionally and posttranscriptionally similar to that of the endogenous ASS gene.
2.   ASS is a rate-limiting enzyme in arginine biosynthesis and play the critical role in the production of nitric oxide. Conceivably, ASS gene expression is complex and dynamic. Particularly the post-transcriptional regulation has been shown to operate in ASS expression. The transgenic mouse system is with modified bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) carrying ASS gene tagged with coding sequence of EGFP.
3.  The ASS expression profile can be visualized and serves as basis to dissect mechanisms of developmental-specific, tissue-specific ASS regulation. Questions such as physiological response of ASS expression stimulated with a variety of signals can be addressed.
4.  Among lines with EGFP knock-in at exon 16 of ASS gene, Tg(ASS-Ex16-EGFP)16CTsu  has about 3 copies of transgene. This line shows relatively high expression in brain which may lead to restless behavior.
