Strain Description
1.  The transgene was designed with loxP-flanked EGFP gene followed by DsRedT1 gene driven by cytomegalovirus (CMV) enhancer, the chicken β-actin promoter. The transgene was microinjected into FVB/N embryos. This strain were crossed with CAnN.Cg-Foxn1nu/CrlNarl for several generations to maintain heterozygous Foxn1nu allele.
2.  This reporter mice could switch from EGFP to DsRed expression by crossed with mice carried cre transgene. Mice expressed tetrameric DsRed protein after cre-induced recombination were further bred to generate homozygotes (DsRed+/+). Whatever heterozygotes or homozygotes were observed heart failure. Homozygous females died at 5 months on average and males died at around 7 months. The lifespan of heterozygotes is longer, on average 12 months for females and 18 months for males
3.  This strain with high level of EGFP expression is free of any cardiovascular symptom and lived for at least 30 months.
