Background Strain BALB/cByJNarl
Strain Description
1.  The mutation originates on inbred strain “BALB/cByJNarl”, is crossed out to “C57BL/6NTacTcu” for three generations, then, is crossed back to the original stain for 18 generations.
2.  Homozygous died within 44 days after birth and had following clinical phenotype, (a) begin to show tremor or ataxia around 10 to 14 days of age, (b) have a short lifespan (average is 38 days; maximum 44 days), (c) low growth rate (max body weight at death is only 10 gm), (d) have pale skin and mucosa (indicating anemia) (e) may show seizure prior to death.
3.  In histopathological examination, when comparing mutants with sex-matched wildtype littermates, homozygotes have data as follows, (a) have hypomyelination in CNS only; (b) may show low hematopoietic activity in either bone marrow or spleen or liver; (c) vacuolization in skeletal and caridiac muscle cells, hepatocytes, renal tubular cells, enterocytes etc. may indicate the results of wasting syndrome.
4.  The mutation is mapped on chr.11:75,340,406-75,534,922.
