Colorectal cancer has been the most common type of cancer in Taiwan for nine years running. This type of cancer metastasizes easily and has a considerably high mortality rate. The occurrence of colorectal cancer is associated with the chain reaction of multiple genes, while conventional genetic modification techniques cannot reproduce the sequentially triggered mutations of concatenated genes. NLAC has developed the genome integrating technique whereby three genes are modified in sequence in the intestinal tract to create an orthotopic mouse model of colorectal cancer accompanied with metastasis. Preliminary results are promising, and the model's verification is expected to be completed in 2020.
